Building your own vape coil can enhance your vaping experience by allowing you to customize flavor, vapor production, and resistance. Although it may seem complicated at first, with the right tools and practice, it’s quite manageable.
What You’ll Need
To start, you will need some essential items: wire made from materials like Kanthal, NiChrome, or Stainless Steel, cotton or another wicking material, a coil jig or a small screwdriver to wrap the coils, wire cutters, ceramic tweezers to adjust the coil while firing, an ohm meter or a regulated mod that shows resistance, and your rebuildable dripping atomizer (RDA) or rebuildable tank atomizer (RTA).
Choosing and Preparing the Wire
First, select the type and thickness of wire depending on your Hayati Vapes and target resistance. Thinner wire heats up faster but is more fragile, while thicker wire is more durable but heats slower. Common gauges range from 26 to 32 AWG, with Kanthal being a good choice for beginners due to its durability and ease of use. Next, cut a piece of wire about 4 to 6 inches long. This length will be enough to wrap your coil and secure the leads in the atomizer deck.
Wrapping the Coil
Then, using your coil jig or screwdriver, carefully wrap the wire into tight, even loops around the rod. Usually, 5 to 8 wraps work well, but the exact number depends on the resistance you want. Make sure the wraps are close but don’t overlap.
Installing the Coil
After wrapping, install the coil by placing it into the deck of your RDA or RTA. Insert the coil’s leads into the post holes and tighten the screws to secure it firmly. Position the coil so it is centered and slightly raised above the airflow holes, which optimizes flavor and vapor production.
Checking Resistance and Dry Firing
Now, use your ohm meter or regulated mod to check the coil’s resistance, making sure it’s safe for your device and battery. Once you confirm the resistance, dry fire the coil by pulsing it at low wattage to remove any hotspots and help it heat evenly from the center outward. Use ceramic tweezers gently to strum or adjust the coil if you notice any uneven heating.
Wicking and Final Assembly
After your coil glows evenly, let it cool and then insert the cotton wick through the coil. Trim the cotton so it fits snugly without blocking airflow and soak it with e-liquid. Finally, reassemble your atomizer, start vaping at a low wattage, and adjust settings as needed.
